I also can't just go out and buy a new HD or computer because I am way too broke from student loans. Apple PowerBook G4 Firmware for Mac Download The PowerBook Firmware Update 4.2.9 will only run on 550MHz or 667MHz PowerBook G4 computers running Mac OS 9.1 or later from a local drive. Is that what caused this? Is there anything I can do to get past the grey screen? I feel like I've tried everything! I will erase my HD if I absolutely HAVE to (ie last resort), but I haven't backed up in a couple of weeks so I would rather not do that. Last night I had my computer on and left it for accidently too long and it shut down from no battery power. I don't remember the exact message and I tried again to get it but now I get the spinning wheel when I try to do that again.
It went through the procedure but then at the end said it couldn't continue.
That worked and I went to the disc utility and tried to repair it.

Install Disc 2 also contains Classic support software to run Mac OS 9 apps. This was one of the last PowerPC Macs that were made. Ive had luck with it on my eMac but its quite a low specification model so might have been the reason it works. I then got my install disc 1 and restarted the comp while holding C. Original Install DVDs from the iBook G4 from mid 2005 (PowerBook6,7). I believe none of the iBook G4 models can offically boot Mac OS 9 though as Fizzbinn has said above Mac OS 9 Lives in an unoffical version of Mac OS 9 which could work on some iBook G4 models. I also tried starting it with Apple+C and that didn't work either. I tried holding down on the option key when starting, nothing happened. Complete PowerBook G4 technical specs are below. The PowerBook G4 was replaced by the MacBook Pro series. All use either titanium or aluminum case designs that were thin for their day. I tried Booting with Apple+S but it would go to the grey screen and nothing would happen. I tried the whole Apple+Ctrl+P+R and let it restart 3 times, but it didn't work. It then started taking longer at start up and.
